Ahmadi Music Group Completes 60th Anniversary Season

On June 4, Ahmadi Music Group held a small charity concert to raise funds for next year's opera production.  Opera songs and the clarinet quintet by Mozart were followed by live jazz and desserts, and then dancing for the young and trendy.  About one hundred people squeezed into a private home in Adan to enjoy the music and support the continuation of high-culture performing arts in Kuwait.

This concert was small, but also significant as the final event of the 60th anniversary season of Ahmadi Music Group, the oldest and largest performing arts organisation in Kuwait.  Started in the 1950's as part of the expat services at KOC, it has grown to become an operatic, orchestral, jazz, and choral ensemble.  The 60th Anniversary Season included performances of Verdi's giant Requiem in November, and Bizet's beloved opera The Pearl Fishers in April.  In between, there were smaller scale charity concerts on Valentine's Day and in June.

Next year will see a programme of music by the great Edward Elgar in November, Seasonal music in December, Mozart's Don Giovanni in mid-April, and the jazz opera Gideon in May.  Also, AMG will extend its programme of elegant small-scale concerts in some of the most beautiful private homes in Kuwait.  LivinQ8 readers should join the mailing list at www.ahmadimusicgroup.com or watch these pages for news of upcoming concerts, or better still, why not come and sing with us?  No tryouts necessary, everyone is welcome.  The only rule is AMG membership:  you have to have fun.
